It took me 6 days to read this relatively short novel because I would get bored, put it down, then pick it back up hoping that it would get better. There were moments that seemed poignant but in the next were trite and overly self indulgent. All of the characters were unlikable however I did feel some sympathy for Reva because I related to her just a little. The ending felt forced and predictable.

An insufferable main character abuses pills for a year in hopes to become a better person. It works? Then it’s 9/11.
But seriously, I kept waiting for there to be some overdose, hospitalization, or dramatic revelation about addiction, but she wakes up exactly a year in and quits the sleeping pills cold turkey with no real side effects other than a fainting spell and weakness. And all of a sudden she’s happy and nice.
This book makes me roll my eyes… but damn did I eat it up.

This book was only going to receive three stars from me for a review until I reached roughly page 222 and the remaining.
The lead up to and the ending is breathtaking. I've never seen life captured so beautifully in such delicate segments. I recommend reading just the finality. The final point: there is a woman diving into the unknown and she is wide awake.
