Lonely and depressed main character is numb and tired of her life. (Ditto, Same!) Her parents leaves here with inheritance money, she had an easy job because she is prertty and skinny, and is educated. She turns to medication and sleeping (hibernating black outs) for a year to rest and regain her senses.
Graphic: Confinement, Drug abuse, Drug use, Eating disorder, Mental illness, Suicidal thoughts, Grief, Death of parent, and Dysphoria
Moderate: Infidelity and Toxic friendship
Minor: Fatphobia and Abortion

However I felt that the right ideas and sentences were just flooded with randomness. I found it way too wordy, too long and because of this it lost important meaning. I really struggled through it because it was so slow. I understand that that might be the point but it just made me want to put the book down and I have read more meaningful depictions of depression using way less words. Then in contrast the ending felt rushed, unnecessary and hard to believe in the context of the rest of the book.
Another thing that bothered me was how much I felt like this was almost a guide of sorts. Like "How to go about dealing with trauma and coming back reset" There's a fine line there and to me it just felt dangerous to put this book out and act like in the end it just worked out for the main character.
Graphic: Addiction, Body shaming, Drug abuse, Drug use, Eating disorder, Fatphobia, Mental illness, Vomit, Grief, Medical trauma, and Death of parent
Moderate: Sexual content, Sexual violence, Suicidal thoughts, and Abortion

I did think that the commentary on grief and the handling of it was artful. Experiencing Reva's mom's funeral from the perspective of our orphaned narrator was truly the peak of this story. Reva herself was such a gripping character, and for the narrator to patronize her over and over again only to realize Reva was living the life she was after all along in those tragic final moments was incredibly thought provoking.
Overall, I do think the writing for MYORAR was stunning and the disecting of such a complex character was fun. I reccomend if your the type of person to scroll your day away on tik tok or if you squander your potential often. You'll find comfort in this book.
